A Dhaka court on Monday started recording testimonies of prosecution witnesses against the 25 accused in the case filed for the murder of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad.
On the first day of recording depositions, Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 1 recorded the statement of complainant Md Barkat Ullah, father of slain Abrar Fahad.
In his deposition, Barkatullah said that the accused had killed his son due to previous enmity.
His testimony was followed by the testimonies of 8 of the 25 accused, regarding how they had tortured Abrar to death.
The victim’s father at the trial, sought exemplary punishment for all of the accused in the case.

Defence lawyer Anik Sarkar started cross examination of the complainant but could not complete it. As such, the judge set Tuesday for the next hearing of the case.
Now in jail, 22 of all the accused, were produced before the tribunal for the hearing. Three of the 25 accused have been absconding since the case was filed.
Abrar, a second-year student of the electrical and electronic engineering department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), died after he was brutally beaten by some Chhatra League men in Sher-e-Bangla hall of the university in the early hours of October 7, 2019, last year.
The victim’s father Barkatullah, on the day of the murder, filed a case with Chawkbazar police station in Dhaka against 19 students of BUET.
The killing triggered a firestorm of protests on campuses across the country. Amid the protests, Buet authorities on October 11, 2019, banned all political activities on campus and suspended 19 students accused in the Abrar killing case.
On November 13, 2019, the Detective Branch of police submitted a charge sheet against 25 Buet students in the case.
Only recently, on September 15, 2020, this year, the same court framed charges against all the 25 accused in the case.
