Prime accused Liakat has filed for a review petition with a Cox’s Bazar court challenging the legality of the murder case filed by Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, the sister of slain retired army major, Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan.
On behalf of the suspended police inspector Liakat --also the prime accused in the murder case-- Adv Forhad Shahrear filed the petition on Sunday afternoon with the Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Court.
According to the petition, the entire trial of Sinha’s sister’s case is being conducted without accordance with the Section 205D of the Act which is not legitimate.
As a result, it was said in his statement that he has doubts about the establishment of a fair and just trial in the Sinha murder case.
Liakat appealed that section 205D be followed to take the judiciary in the right direction.
The court’s public prosecutor Faridul Alam said that Justice Md Ismail accepted the case and set October 20 for a hearing in this connection.
Sinha, 36, who took early retirement from the Bangladesh Army in November 2018, was shot dead at a police checkpoint on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive in Shamlapur on July 31.
Sinha’s sister Sharmin filed a murder case with the judicial magistrate court in Cox’s Bazar on August 5 accusing nine police personnel.
