Information Minister Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said there is no need to worry about the registration of online news portals as it is a continuous process.

The minister made the remark while addressing reporters at the secretariat.

The ministry has sent a list of online news portals that have applied for registration to the investigation agencies and published a list of 34 online news portals that secured clearance from the agencies, the minister said.

The list of online versions of newspapers will also be published later, he added.

Names of many established and popular online news portals did not appear on the published list, Hasan Mahmud said, adding that they are have been repeatedly asking the investigation agencies to submit the reports.

"All the news portals will be able to get registration if they get positive reports from the investigation agencies," he said.

Regarding social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Mahmud stated that an inter-ministerial body has been formed to fix guidelines about their operation in the country and bring them under the government tax net.
