NDUB webinar sheds light on effective e-learning techniques

Several clubs and societies of Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) have organized a webinar on the pros and cons of online education in Bangladesh’s context and discussed the different aspects of online teaching.

The Photographic Society of Notre Dame University Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Notre Dame University Bangladesh Business Club (NDUBBC) and Notre Dame University Bangladesh English Club (NDUBEC), organized the webinar on Thursday.

The webinar was part of a month-long national and international online competition event titled “NDUB Lockdown Fest 2020” where 90% of the sponsored amount will be donated to Covid-19 affected vulnerable people and implementation of necessary health measures.

UNDP Bangladesh is the strategic partner of this event while Dhaka Tribune and Radio Dhoni 91.2 FM are the media partners.

At the webinar, the discussion covered many areas including syllabus designing and lecture planning for online classes, interactive online classroom, engaging students with activities, online examination or assignment evaluation, learning management system (LMS), and the online flipped classroom.

The chief guest at the webinar was Prof Dr Fr Patrick D Gaffney, CSC, vice-chancellor of NDUB while Guieswende Rouamba, educational technologist, Center for the Study of Languages & Cultures, University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA, was the special guest.

Assistant Professor of NDUB SK Rezwan Shihab discussed his experience on LMS and interactive classroom at the webinar. 

Senior Lecturer of NDUB and Program Director of NDUB Language Center Habiba Akter shared the pros and cons of online education in Bangladesh’s context.

Associate Prof and Head of Dept of Information Technology and Management, Daffodil International University (DIU) Imran Mahmud gave a detailed lecture on online flipped classroom during the webinar. 

In addition, Ejaj-ur Rahaman, deputy Director, DIU, former fellow at Teach for Bangladesh, shared his insights on online education.         

Sabiha Sultana, faculty of Education and e-Learning expert at a2i Programme, discussed the government’s measures in this new education trend and the on-going initiatives around the country. 

In the last part of the session, Dr Br Leo J Pereira, CSC set the query session discussing on exam and evaluation. Deputy Registrar, Dr Fr Leonard Shankar Rozario, CSC provided the vote of thanks to the special guests. 

Assistant Director of Student Affairs at NDUB and Club Coordinator Sister Shagorica Gomes, CSC expressed gratitude to the guests and welcomed queries from students and teachers.  

The concluding notes were delivered by Prof Golam Sarwar Chowdhury, chairman, Department of English, NDUB.

The next two sessions of the event will be held on June 30 and July 5 on “Changes in Business Communication Strategies in 2020” and “Creative Practice and Its Impact on Mental Well-being” respectively.
