175 Bangladeshis to return home from Australia

The previous evacuation flight organized by the High Commission left Melbourne on May 8

Update : 15 Jun 2020, 07:06 PM

As many as 175 Bangladeshi citizens, stranded in Australia owing to the travel restrictions enforced amid the coronavirus outbreak, will return home from Sydney on Monday night.

The flight will arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 10:15pm after a layover in Singapore.

A special Singapore Airlines flight, arranged by the Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra, in association with Melton Travel Centre, left Sydney with the returnees on Monday at 12:10pm (Sydney local time).

It is the second non-scheduled flight evacuating stranded Bangladeshis from Australia.

The previous evacuation flight organized by the High Commission left Melbourne on May 8.

All passengers were notified to carry up-to-date Covid-19 symptom-free or Covid-19-free certificates issued within three days before departure. Procedures and requirements of home/institutional quarantine were also communicated.

With this flight, most Bangladeshis stuck in Australia will have returned home, and the need for such special evacuation flights from Australia has gone down significantly.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Australia thanked the concerned Bangladesh and Australian authorities for their support in organizing the flight.
