US President Donald Trump expressed hopes to visit Bangladesh, as he exchanged greetings with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the Arab Islamic-American (AIA) Summit in Riyadh.
"Yes I would come [to Bangladesh]," the US president said, as quoted by Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque during a briefing with reporters after the summit on Sunday, reports BSS.
Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim and Deputy Press Secretary Md Nazrul Islam were present at the press briefing.
The foreign secretary said the two leaders exchanged pleasantries in the holding room of King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center in Riyadh before the start of the Arab Islamic-American (AIA) Summit.
At that time, the prime minister invited the US president to visit Bangladesh, he added.
"Accepting the invitation, Trump expressed the hope that he would visit to Bangladesh," Shahidul Haque said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Tajik President Emomalii Rahmon held a meeting at the King Abdulaziz Conference Centre on the sidelines of the AIA Summit.
The Tajik president invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to visit Tajikistan at her convenienience.
"We hope that the Tajik President may visit Bangladesh or the Bangladesh Prime Minister may visit Tajikistan by the end of this year," the foreign secretary said.
He said that Tajikistan considers Bangladesh as a potential partner for boosting trade.
The Bangladesh prime minister also held a meeting with her Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak on the sidelines of the summit.
The foreign secretary said that Bangladesh has enjoyed a very friendly relationship with Malaysia for a long period of time, and the two leaders discussed various issues relating to bilateral interests.
