20 Bangladeshis return home from Turkey, 12 quarantined

They returned to the country by a special flight of Turkish Airlines

A total of 20 Bangladesh nationals, who got stranded in Turkey due to travel restrictions amid the worldwide coronavirus crisis, have returned home.

A special flight of Turkish Airlines carrying the Bangladeshis landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman confirmed the matter.

He said 154 citizens of Turkey are returning to their country by the same flight scheduled to leave at 1:10pm.

In another development, 12 of the returnees have been sent for institutional quarantine at Brac Learning Centre located at Ashkona, adjacent to the airport, said the airport's health officer Dr Sajjad Shahriar.

Returnees from abroad must have to isolate or quarantine themselves for 14 days as part of Covid-19 procedure, he added.

As of Tuesday, Bangladesh has so far recorded 110 deaths and 3,382 cases from Covid-19, a pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).
