Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the whole world might face an economic crisis for the coronavirus pandemic and Bangladesh is preparing a three fiscal years plan to overcome it.
The government has also declared a Tk100,000 crore stimulus package to fight the upcoming economic crisis.
The premier made the statement while addressing a video conference with the representatives and officials of Dhaka division’s nine districts on Thursday morning.
The video conference was aired live on state and private television channels from the prime minister's official residence Ganabhaban.
“The virus has caused a negative impact on the world economy and the United Nation and some other international organization have forecasted a severe economic crisis worldwide,” said the premier.
“To overcome the crisis a basic stimulus package of Tk96,000 crore has been declared, which in total will stand up to Tk100,000 crore,” she added.
The prime minister mentioned about the preparation of the three fiscal years plan and said: “We are taking some preparation in advance.”
The premier said: “We cannot stop our agricultural activities. It needs to continue.”
Day labourers who are sitting idly for halt in transport services can go for harvesting paddy and earn some money, she added.
“We need to focus on harvesting crops and cultivate in every piece of land,” said the premier.
As of Thursday, Bangladesh recorded a total of 60 deaths from coronavirus. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 1,572.
Meanwhile, at least 134,616 people were killed while around 2,083,326 were infected by the virus across the world till Thursday morning.
