Another 328 US citizens, including 17 children, left Bangladesh for their home country on Monday.
A chartered flight of Qatar Airways left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka with the US citizens at 6:09pm, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Public Relations Officer Mohammad Sohel Kamruzzaman said.
The special flight will land at Washington Dulles International Airport after transiting in Doha. Passengers will remain on the aircraft during transit.
This is the third chartered flight to leave Bangladesh with US citizens. The first special flight left Bangladesh with 269 US citizens on March 30, and the second left the country with 322 US citizens on April 5.
CAAB suspended all flights to and from Bangladesh due to the Covid-19 pandemic on March 21.
A total 803 cases of Covid-19 have so far been confirmed in Bangladesh, including 39 deaths. The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, has infected over 1.8 million people and led to over 116,000 deaths as of Monday, according to Worldometer.
The US accounts for over 560,000 of the confirmed cases and there have been more than 22,000 deaths due to Covid-19 in the country.
