Chittagong District Administration has taken up an initiative to distribute relief materials and cash money among poor families across the district.
District administration officials will distribute 170 tons of rice and Tk10 lakh in cash among 17,000 families from Saturday morning.
The decision came when the whole country is put under an unofficial 10-day lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus.
The working-class people particularly the day labourers were hit hard the most because of this sudden lockdown.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Shojib Kumar Chakraborty, district relief and rehabilitation officer said that the district administration has undertaken the initiative to make sure that the poor people do not go without food during this 10-day period.
