The weeklong nationwide campaign was scheduled to begin Wednesday

Update : 16 Mar 2020, 09:41 PM

The upcoming Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign has been postponed in light of the coronavirus situation in the country.

Confirming the development, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday also said that the campaign’s revised schedule would be announced later, reports BSS.

The weeklong nationwide campaign was planned for children aged between nine months to 10 years from Wednesday.

The government on Monday also declared that all educational institutions across the country will remain closed from March 18 to 31.

So far, Bangladesh has detected eight people infected with Covid-19, most of whom returned home from abroad recently.

Three of them, however, have made full recovery, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).

More than 2,000 people are also in isolation at different hospitals in eight divisions of the country.

Since the outbreak started in China’s Wuhan city in late December last year, the new coronavirus strain has infected more than 175,200 people and killed over 6,700 people in 162 countries and territories.
