Labour and Employment Secretary K M Ali Azam on Monday said no decision was taken yet over closing the mills and factories in light of the coronavirus situation in the country.
He came up with the information while taking to reporters at the secretariat at an event held to unveil a calendar on the birth centenary celebrations of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports UNB.
“Necessary prevention measures have been taken, keeping the supply chain and activities uninterrupted,’’ he added.
The factory owners were asked to ensure workers’ hand wash with sanitizer before their entry to the factories, wearing masks, and checking workers’ body temperatures.
The secretary also said that factory authorities were asked to send those workers on leave whose relatives recently returned home from abroad.
Earlier in the day, Education Minister Dipu Moni announced that all the educational institutions of the country will remain shut till March 31 to prevent spread of the deadly virus.
So far, Bangladesh has detected eight people infected with Covid-19, most of whom returned home from abroad recently. Three of them, however, have made full recovery, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
More than 2,000 people are also in isolation at different hospitals in eight divisions of the country.
The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak was more than 6,600 globally as of Monday. The virus, Covid-19, also has infected over 174,500 people so far in 162 countries and territories, according to worldometer.
