The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has suggested people returning from abroad, especially from 54 countries affected by the coronavirus infection, to quarantine themselves at home even if they do not show any symptoms.
Mentioning that no cases of the coronavirus infection have been identified in Bangladesh to date, IEDCR Director Meerjady Sabrina Flora said: “If the virus ever enters Bangladesh, it will be through people travelling from those (affected) countries. Therefore, the returnees must remain in home quarantine for some days and should not come out until and unless it is an emergency.”
The director of IEDCR said this at a press conference held at the institute, on Sunday.
Asking citizens to remain cautious as the virus has spread so quickly across the world, Flora said: “We suggest returnees from abroad to use masks on the way home from the airport. If possible, they should use their own transport.”
Flora suggested: “If anyone coming from abroad has any type of symptoms, contact the IEDCR on its hotline as it is ready to provide treatment.”
The IEDCR called for Bangladeshi nationals to avoid travelling to countries affected by the disease.
According to IEDCR, 5 Bangladeshi migrant workers were infected by the virus in Singapore -- two have already been discharged from the hospital recently, two are to be released soon, one is still in intensive care in the city state, while one Bangladeshi has recently been identified with the disease in the United Arab Emirates.
