Juktofront demand logical reform of quota system

Update : 12 Apr 2018, 01:25 AM
Juktofront (United Front) Chairman AQM Badrudozza, Juktofront leader and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rob, and Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman have demanded a logical reform of the existing quota system. They placed this demand in mass media on Wednesday in retaliation of the attacks on students by the police and Awami League agents. In a joint brief, the leaders voiced their displeasure over the government's reaction to the students' demand, calling it “unacceptable”. They said: “The violence faced by the students at the hands of law enforcement and other government agents is reminiscent of the autocratic Pakistani rule. It is extremely unfortunate. “It is utterly irrational and humiliating for a minister of the ruling party to label the protesting students as “children of Razakar”. We feel that she needs to retract her statement and apologize,” the leaders said. They also stated that quotas reserved for freedom fighters and ethnic groups are logical, but they should represent sentimental values and not occupy a major portion of the quotas. “Those who will have scored 5% below general scores will not fall under the quota system. The reform should be done after careful perusal of merit-based and other categories. We feel that this is of utmost importance,” they also said. The leaders have condemned the attack on the Dhaka University vice-chancellor's residence and have called for prompt action.
