US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat attended the event as the chief guest. Bernicat said the event solidifies Bangladesh’s reputation as a key contributor to international peace and security adding: “The Bangladesh Armed Forces have an especially enviable record of achievement in international peacekeeping as one of the world’s largest contributors.” During this week-long workshop, participants had the opportunity to know the activities of Bangladesh’s Department of Disaster Management, the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, and 86th Independent Signal Brigade of Bangladesh Army. “This kind of sharing of processes and experiences is what makes this kind of workshop so useful,” the US ambassador said. The US ambassador conveyed her deep condolences to the families of the four Bangladesh soldiers who were killed last week in Mali working under an UN peacekeeping mission. Bangladesh Armed Forces Principal Staff Officer (PSO) Lt Gen Md Mahfuzur Rahman and US army’s Colonel Aaron Osburn were also among the speakers. This was the third MCIP event hosted by the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Representatives from 16 nations came together to initiate communications planning leading towards MCIP’s capstone event, Pacific Endeavor, which will take place in August in Kathmandu.
