BNP will stage demonstrations across the country, including Dhaka, on Monday, condemning and protesting an attack reportedly by police on the party’s leaders and activists on Saturday.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement at a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters in Dhaka on Saturday.
The protest program is also meant for forcing the government to release BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia from jail, said top BNP leader.

Earlier in the day, police dispersed the BNP men by using water cannon and batons as they arranged the hoisting of a “black-flag” to protest the denial of permission for holding a rally in Dhaka on Thursday.
Rizvi claimed that at least 320 leaders and activists, including Organizing Secretary Fazlul Haq Milon, Advisory Council member Ataur Rahman Dhali and former MP Nilofer Chowdhury Moni, were injured in the incident.

The law enforcers picked up over 150 BNP men, including Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and central leader Mostafizur Rahman Babul.
When asked, Shibly Noman, additional deputy commissioner (Motijheel zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan, said police only used water cannon to disperse the protestors as they blocked the road causing huge public sufferings.
However, BNP leaders said they held the program on the footpath, not on the road.
