They expressed their condolences in separate messages issued on Sunday, reports BSS.
President Abdul Hamid in his message said: “Suranjit Sengupta was not only a political leader but also a veteran parliamentarian. He played a significant role in framing the county’s first constitution.”
In a condolence message, the premier recalled the checkered political career of Suranjit Sengupta, saying that his death is an irreparable loss to the country's political arena.
Mentioning Suranjit Sen’s contribution to the progress and development of country's parliamentary democracy, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said late Suranjit's vast knowledge over the Constitution and his contribution to overcoming the constitutional crisis has made him an institution ultimately.
Jatiya party Chairman and former President HM Ershad expressed profound shock at the death of the veteran parliamentarian saying, “I'm deeply saddened at the death of Sengupta.”
Veteran Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta has passed away at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka. He was 71. He breathed his last around 4:24am on Sunday.
