DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah has said action will be taken against Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mizanur Rahman if his involvement is found in the incident of torturing a woman.
The commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) made the statement while talking to journalists at Paltan Community Centre in Dhaka on Saturday.
Replying to a query, he said: “As per the instructions from IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque, a probe team lead by Additional IGP Mainul Islam and Additional Commissioner Md Shahabuddin Qureshi are investigating into the matter.
Asaduzzaman Miah also said he is unaware about Bhatara police refusing to file a general diary of any journalist against Mizanur Rahman.
He said: “Action will be taken against the police officials who are found guilty of incorporating with the public.
On January 9, DMP Additional Commissioner Mizanur Rahman was withdrawn over allegations of abducting a young woman at gunpoint and then forcing her to marry him.
In the last few days, multiple vernacular newspapers and television channels quoting the alleged victim, who said Mizanur had abducted the woman at gunpoint after picking her up from her house at Panthapath in Dhaka in July last year.
The DIG, who is also said to have a wife, allegedly took the woman first to 300-Feet Road in Khilkhet, adjacent to Bashundhara Residential Area, where the two had a heated argument before he beat her up and threatened to kill her with his service firearm to make her comply.
Then he reportedly took her to his Bailey Road home and kept her confined for three days.
After that, Mizanur summoned the woman’s mother from Bogra and forced her, again allegedly at gunpoint, to marry her daughter off to him against a Tk50 lakh den mohor in the Kabinnama (marriage contract).

The victim woman claimed that Mizanur had threatened to kill both her and her mother that day if they did not agree to his terms.
Since then, she alleged that she and Mizanur had been living at a flat in the city’s Lalmatia area. She also said they did not have much trouble after that until she posted a photo of Mizanur on her Facebook profile and identified him as her husband.
Angered by her act, the DIG then allegedly tortured her both physically and mentally and forced her to take down the photo from Facebook.
Later, Mizanur accused her in a vandalism case, in which she was even sent to jail in December. However, after she secured bail, another case was filed against her for allegedly making a false Kabinnama.
She was granted bail in that case too, following which the woman talked to the media and raised the allegations.
DIG Mizanur, however, has denied all the accusations and claimed the woman was a fraud.
In December, the police official had also reportedly tried to abduct the female news presenter with whom he had an alleged extramarital affair.
He was stopped by public at Kuril Bishwa Road area after she broke a window of his car and cried for help, according to media reports.
Video footage of the news presenter’s rescue from the DIG’s car was also shared in the social networking sites. After that incident, coupled with his second wife’s allegations, Mizanur’s reported activities were severely criticized by different quarters, including on social media, leading to his withdrawal from DMP.This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
