Amid an escalating concern that the Rohingya refugees might spread out across the country, 70 Rohingyas were detained from Cox’s Bazar town on Sunday when they were trying to move out of their designated areas.
Of the arrestees, 15 are children, 38 women and 17 men.
They were later sent back to Kutupalong Refugee Camp in the district’s Ukhiya upazila, said Sub-inspector Atikur Rahman, in-charge of police outpost in the town.
“Some local agents and transport workers are helping the refugees move to other parts of the county in exchange for money,” he added.
On September 10, the police headquarters instructed its members to remain alert and intensify surveillance on road, water and airways so that the Rohingyas, fleeing violence in Rakhine state of Myanmar, cannot move from Cox's Bazar to other parts of the country.
