Chhatra League leader Diaz’s body exhumed for re-autopsy

“A three-member forensic team will conduct the second autopsy at the Dhaka Medical College,” CID's ASP Ohidur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune. A Chittagong court on December 6 ordered the fresh autopsy after Diaz's family moved the court. The body was exhumed from CU campus in presence of ASP Ohidur, Hathazari Assistant Commissioner (land) and family members at 7:30am on Saturday. Ohidur said the court did not fix any deadline for submission of the new post-mortem examination report. “We hope to get the report as soon as possible,” he added. Dhaka Medical College Forensic department head Dr Shohel Mahmud said they would form a medical board on Sunday to carry out the fresh autopsy. Diaz, former assistant secretary of BCL central committee and also the former joint secretary of BCL CU unit, was found dead at his flat near the university's Gate No 2 on November 20. His family and BCL activists claimed he was murdered by his rivals. The first autopsy report, which said Diaz had killed himself, was rejected by his family who demanded another post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Chittagong University's Assistant Anwar Hossain was dismissed by the university authorities following protests over Diaz's death.
