Wasim, one of the two detainees, fired gunshots at SP Babul Akter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, leaving her dead on the spot, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Iqbal Bahar has said.
He informed the journalists at a press briefing that a Chittagong court is recording the statement of two detainees after showing them arrested in the case filed in connection with Mitu’s killing.
“They were giving their confessional statements before the court under Section 164,” said Bahar at the CMP Headquarters at 3pm on Sunday.
He said police detained Wasim and Anwar, both professional criminals, from Rangunia upazila of Chittagong.
Wasim, who was one of the three motor riders, opened fire at Mahmuda. Anwar, among others, worked as rescuer to the 7-8 members team, the CMP commissioner said.
“The team was professional killers,” he added.
On June 5, Mitu was shot and hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in Chittagong.
