Two separate probe committees were formed yesterday in connection with the death of two people, including a college teacher and a pedestrian, at Phulbaria, Mymensingh.

One committee led by Additional District Magistrate Arif Ahmed has been asked to submit its report within seven working days.

Meanwhile, another probe committee led by Additional Police Super Nure Alam has been asked to submit its report within three working days.

Apart from this, two cases filed in this connection with Phulbaria police station on Sunday night by Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam while Hazrat Ali, brother of Safar Ali, filed another case with the same police station.

The local authorities imposed section 144 in Phulbaria municipality area to avert any untoward situation following Sunday’s clash that left two people dead.

Officer-in-Charge of Phulbaria police station Rifat Khan Razib confirmed the matter to Dhaka saying that the restriction would remain imposed from 9am to 5pm.

On Sunday, two people, including a college teacher, were killed, as police charged batons on them during a demonstration at Phulbaria upzila headquarters.

On Sunday, teachers and students of Phulbaria Degree College brought out a procession in the district town, demanding nationalisation of the college.

The agitators blockaded the Phulbaria-Mymensigh Highway to press their demand. They locked into a clash with the law enforcers when police tried to disperse them.

Later, police charged batons and opened fire on the demonstrators, leaving at least 20 people injured.

Of the injured, Safar Ali, a pedestrian, died on the way to Churkhai Community Hospital while Abul Kalam Azad, an associate professor of Phulbaria Degree College, died at Phulbaria Upzila Health Complex.
