District council polls on Dec 28

The first-ever district council polls will be held on December 28, said the Election Commission (EC). Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad made the announcement of the polls schedule at the EC Secretariat in the capital on Sunday, reports Bangla Tribune. According to the schedule, the deadline for filing nominations for posts of chairman, reserved and general members is December 1. The commission will scrutinise nomination papers on December 3 and 4. The last day for withdrawal of candidature is December 11. The candidates will be allocated poll symbols on December 12. According to the amended law, a district council will have 21 members, including one chairman, 15 general members and five female members (reserved).
