Times Higher Education (THE) released its World University Rankings for 2025 last month, which included several Canadian universities.
The ranking is based on 18 indicators across five key categories: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry engagement.
According to CIC News, which compiled the list based on THE’s ranking, 33 Canadian universities made it to this year’s rankings.
Among them, the University of Toronto secured the top spot among Canada's best higher education institutions. Since 2011, this university has consistently maintained its place among the best.
The University of British Columbia ranked second, recognized for its world-class faculty and international reputation.
Meanwhile, McGill University held the third position.
In fourth place are McMaster University and the University of Alberta (tied).
In the sixth and seventh place are Université de Montréal and the University of Waterloo, respectively.
In eighth place is the University of Ottawa, followed by the University of Calgary and Western University (tied) in ninth place.
Since some universities received the same score, the fourth and ninth positions each have two universities.
The UK-based education magazine Times Higher Education (THE) publishes various rankings of universities worldwide.
One of these is the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
This ranking is based on multiple quality performance indicators, including teaching standards, research environment, research excellence, industry engagement and international outlook.
For the 2025 edition, the ranking assessed over 2,000 universities from 115 countries and regions.
