In a remarkable blend of artistry and opulence, a minuscule handbag, measuring less than 0.03 inches wide, fetched a staggering price of over $63,000 at an online auction held on Wednesday.
The fluorescent yellowish-green bag, inspired by the renowned designs of Louis Vuitton, is barely discernible to the naked eye. However, it is important to note that this extraordinary creation is the brainchild of the New York art collective, MSCHF, rather than the luxury fashion label itself.
Dubbed the "Microscopic Handbag," this extraordinary accessory is so diminutive that it could easily pass through the eye of a needle and is smaller than a grain of sea salt.
Utilizing cutting-edge two-photon polymerization technology, the collective employed 3D printing to manufacture the micro-scale plastic components required to bring this handbag to life.
An accompanying microscope equipped with a digital display allowed potential buyers to marvel at the intricate details of the artwork.
A promotional photo of the bag highlights its meticulous design, featuring the iconic "LV" monogram associated with Louis Vuitton. Evidently drawing inspiration from the label's acclaimed OnTheGo tote, which typically carries a price tag ranging from $3,100 to $4,300, this miniature masterpiece captivates with its attention to detail.
The exclusive online auction was hosted by Joopiter, an auction house founded by the multi-talented American musician, record producer, and designer Pharrell Williams.
Notably, Williams currently holds the position of creative director of menswear at Louis Vuitton.
However, MSCHF's chief creative officer, Kevin Wiesner, revealed to the New York Times that the collective had not sought permission from the French fashion house to utilize its logo or design.
Describing their creation as a token for Pharrell Williams, Wiesner humorously stated: "Pharrell loves big hats, so we made him an incredibly small bag."
