With the BNP ready to hold its pre-announced mass rally on Friday, law enforcement officers are also on the alert to prevent any acts of vandalism.
A large number of police personnel including two water cannons, two armored vehicles and two prison vans were deployed at the Fakirapool junction.
Meanwhile, BNP activists have started gathering in front of their party office at Naya Paltan. They were seen coming in small groups to join the mass procession carrying posters and placards.
Motijheel Division Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Hayatul Islam Khan told Bangla Tribune the BNP has permission to hold a mass rally. Besides, they have been assigned specific routes. “We hope they will hold their procession on their assigned route,” he said.
“Legal action will be taken against the BNP if they make any attempt to create chaos during the rally. A large number of uniformed policemen have been deployed in the area. Besides, many detectives are also working in civilian dresses,” he said.
The mass procession was scheduled to start at 2pm.
Around 33 like-minded political parties are going to hold the mass-procession program in the capital to push for their 10 demands, including the resignation of the government, dissolution of parliament, transfer of power to a non-partisan caretaker government and formation of a new election commission.
