Coast Guard seizes 16kg hemp in Chandpur

Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested a suspected drug dealer and seized 16 kilograms of hemp during a special anti-narcotics operation in Chandpur on Wednesday.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said the operation was conducted around 2pm based on intelligence information in an area adjacent to Boro Station under Chandpur Sadar Police Station, said a press release.

During the drive, Coast Guard personnel searched a suspicious individual and recovered 16kg of marijuana, valued at approximately Tk 480,000, from his luggage and bag. The suspect was subsequently arrested.

Legal proceedings against the detainee are underway, while the seized drugs have been taken into custody, the Coast Guard said.

Sujan added that the Coast Guard will continue its operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities to ensure public safety and prevent the spread of narcotics.
