Child dies as private car catches fire at Narayanganj filling station

A private car caught fire while refueling at a filling station in Rupganj, Narayanganj, resulting in the tragic death of a four-year-old child.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the Rongdhonu CNG Filling Station in the Karnogop area along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.

Following the child's death, enraged family members vandalized the filling station.

Jihan was the son of Sharif from the Rupshi area of Rupganj.

According to family sources, the child, Jihan, was traveling with his mother and uncle in a private car from their home in Rupshi to his aunt’s house in Narsingdi.

They stopped at the Rongdhonu Filling Station in Karnogop to refuel.

While the gas was being refilled, Jihan remained inside the car, while his mother and uncle were outside. Suddenly, the vehicle caught fire, and before anyone could react, the flames spread throughout the entire car.

Jihan, trapped inside, was burned to death on the spot.

As news of the tragedy spread, the child’s family members rushed to the filling station and vandalized the premises.

Meanwhile, the station’s staff fled the scene immediately after the fire broke out.

Mizanur Rahman, in charge of the Bhulta police outpost, confirmed the incident and said that a police team was dispatched to the location.

The child’s body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy, and legal proceedings are underway.
