The Bangladesh CNG Filling Station and Conversion Workshop Owners Association has withdrawn its planned nationwide shutdown of CNG stations scheduled for July 30.
Under the association's latest decision, all CNG filling stations across the country will remain open that day.
The announcement was made on Monday at a press conference held at Akram Tower in Bijoynagar, Dhaka.
Association leaders said the decision to withdraw the programme was taken due to the ongoing gas crisis across the country.
The association had earlier announced the one-day shutdown to press home four demands, including an increase in the commission paid on CNG sales.
Although the July 30 program has been called off, the association has given the authorities until August 22 to meet its demands.
Leaders warned that if their demands are not fulfilled by then, they will proceed with an indefinite nationwide shutdown of CNG filling stations from August 23.
The association's four demands are:
- Increase the commission on CNG sales from Tk8 to at least Tk13.96 per cubic metre.
- Introduce an automatic commission adjustment mechanism whenever fuel prices are increased.
- Abolish the practice of charging existing customers additional security deposits following gas price hikes.
- Reduce lease, licensing and renewal fees imposed by the Roads and Highways Department and other government agencies to reasonable levels.
