Kabi Nazrul College students hold protest demanding reinstatement of vice principal

Students at Kabi Nazrul Government College held a protest on Wednesday, demanding the reinstatement of Vice Principal Professor Saleh Ahmed Fakir.

The demonstration took place on the campus around11am.

According to sources, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education issued an order reassigning Prof Saleh Ahmed Fakir as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), prompting the students' protest.

During the protest, students expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, stating that Prof Saleh had been supportive during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, unlike former principal Amena Begum, who allegedly sided with Chhatra League leaders.

They claimed Prof Saleh supported the students' movement, personally provided financial assistance to students injured in protests, and was a steadfast advocate for their rights.

"A teacher who has been there for students in their time of need should not be punished," a student speaker said. "We condemn this rash decision by the education ministry and demand Prof Saleh Ahmed's reinstatement."

Mehdi Hasan, co-coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and coordinator at Kabi Nazrul College, said: “Saleh Ahmed is an exemplary teacher who always supported the students' rightful demands. We want him reinstated at our college.”

Hasan also raised concerns about the new vice principal’s appointment from Gopalganj, saying: “We don’t want a partisan presence on our campus. Our campus bears the scars of the anti-discrimination movement, and we will not allow it to be compromised. We demand immediate action from the education ministry to reinstate Prof Saleh Ahmed here as vice principal.”
