Banani Social Initiatives launches ‘Do Not Honk’ campaign to combat noise pollution

Banani Social Initiatives, in collaboration with the Banani Society, has launched a new social awareness campaign titled Do Not Honk.

The initiative, which began on Saturday, aims to foster a noise-free, peaceful, and serene environment in the Banani area by encouraging drivers to avoid unnecessary honking.

Volunteers have taken to the streets with various awareness-raising materials, including stickers, signage, and placards displaying the message “No Horn”.

These stickers have been placed on almost all types of vehicles in Banani, ranging from rickshaws to cars, to promote a change in driving habits.

Apon Ahsan, director of Advertising Agency Expressions Limited and a key initiator of Banani Social Initiatives, emphasized the importance of this campaign.

He said: “To build an inclusive society in Bangladesh 2.0, active participation from all sectors—governmental, non-governmental, and individual—is essential. Among the many issues we face, noise pollution is critical. The ‘Do Not Honk’ initiative is a timely effort to address this problem.

“The constant noise from honking not only disrupts our environment but also impacts our mental and physical health, leading to conditions such as hearing loss, sleep disturbances, stress, and even cardiovascular issues,” he added.

Shawkat Ali Bhuiyan Dilon, president of the Banani Society, highlighted that the campaign also includes efforts to maintain cleanliness in the Banani area.

Volunteers are encouraging residents and businesses to keep their surroundings clean. The campaign’s launch event saw participation from students of Banani Bidyaniketan School and College, members of the Banani Society, and local residents.

The “Do Not Honk” campaign represents a significant step towards reducing noise pollution and enhancing community well-being in Banani.
