The Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has recommended Dhaka residents walk instead of using rickshaws, CNG-run autorickshaws or buses for travelling short distances.
The division issued several traffic-control measures on Thursday in order to avoid any untoward incidents in the capital during Ramadan.
The DMP said no long-route or inter-district bus should stop on any road to pick up passengers in the capital. Passengers can take seats when inside terminals and bus representatives have been advised to ensure it.
The Traffic Division also said that no bus should ply long-distance or unauthorized routes from Dhaka without a permit.
Vehicles must not carry additional passengers on the roof, the DMP said.
Besides, bus drivers must not engage in any competition when picking up passengers that could lead to disruption of movement and loss of life.
Public transport in and out of Dhaka should maintain order so that no traffic jam is created, the DMP said.
Commuters have been advised to leave their homes in the morning and workplaces later in the day with enough time in hand while returning for iftar.
