A university student in Dhaka has been reportedly gang-raped at a job interview in the capital.
The incident took place at Shyamoli in Dhaka on Tuesday, police said.
The rape survivor filed a case accusing two individuals with Sher-e-Bangla police station in the early hours of Thursday, and police apprehended one of the accused on the same day, Inspector (Investigation) Abul Kalam Azad of the police station told Dhaka Tribune.
The arrestee, Fahim Ahmed Fayez, was produced before a Dhaka court, who placed him on remand for three days.
A drive is on to find the other accused, Nahid Patwary, who is also acquainted with the survivor, the inspector further added.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Inspector Azad said the student went to Health Vision, a vaccine supply company where Fahim is an official, on Tuesday.
She went to the private office-slash-residence, located in Shyamoli, with Nahid for an interview for a job scheduled for 4pm.
During the interview, Nahid and Fahim offered her alcohol, but she declined. Later, they gave her a glass of soft drink that police suspect might have been spiked with alcohol or sedative drug.
Drinking the drink, the woman fell unconscious, and that is when the duo raped her, Azad said.
Police arrested Fahim in Shyamoli only hours after the gang-rape survivor filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla police station in the early hours of Thursday.
“We produced Fahim before a court on Thursday afternoon seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation. The court granted three days of remand,” Azad said.
The victim underwent a primary physical examination at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, and was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) One-Stop Crisis Centre for further examination and treatment, he added.
