429 arrested, weapons recovered in DMP raids over 24 hours

A total of 429 people were arrested in regular raids conducted by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) across the capital over the past 24 hours.

During the operations, police also recovered several illegal firearms, 822 yaba pills, 19kg 185g of cannabis and 88 bottles of Eskaf syrup. A total of 64 cases were filed during the period.

Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division Md Akter Hossain confirmed the information on Thursday.

Four people were arrested in connection with a gunfight in Gandaria, and a foreign-made pistol and yaba were recovered following the incident.

In a separate operation in Banani, five people were arrested with a foreign-made pistol while allegedly preparing to commit a robbery.

In Mirpur, notorious criminal and shooter Zakir was arrested with firearms and ammunition.

Meanwhile, the DMP’s City Intelligence Analysis Division arrested a suspected drug dealer and recovered 7kg of cannabis.

Of the 429 arrested, 22 were detained by the Ramna Division, 22 by the Lalbagh Division, 39 by the Wari Division, 66 by the Motijheel Division, 62 by the Tejgaon Division, 144 by the Mirpur Division, 35 by the Gulshan Division, 39 by the Uttara Division and two by the Detective Branch.

The arrests were made during operations in various police station areas across the capital, where police also recovered other evidence and narcotics.

Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, the DMP said.
