CMP gets response over citizens’ information

In a bid to make a Citizen Database, CMP has collected nearly four lakh forms with information from the dwellers till yesterday. CMP sources said it had distributed a total of 1.1 million forms among the house owners and tenants. According to CMP, a total of 7,858,700 people live in the city. CMP started to distribute the forms through beat policing system from May 15, 2016 dividing the whole city under 145-beats. CMP officials hoped that the massive task will be completed by December 31 which would play a significant role to curb militancy and crime in the port city Like Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s move, CMP introduced the initiative to curb militancy and other crimes as militants and criminals used to took shelters at the residential areas hiding their identities. Officer-in-Charge (OC)s of the 16 police stations of CMP have been coordinating the programme. How ever many dwellers told to Dhaka Tribune that they had not got form though police has distributed the forms since mid May. Focusing on 16 points, police are disbursing the forms titled “Citizen Identification Form” among the tenants. The tenants, who submitted their forms would be given an Identification (ID) Number during making the citizen database, said CMP boss Iqbal Bahar while inaugurating the programme. CMP Commissioner said the CMP had set target to distribute 15 lakh forms across the city while scrutinizing the forms and information. CMP’s Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operation) Debdas Bhattacharia said:  “CMP has so far collected around four lakh forms from tenants while around 11 lakh forms have been handed out through 16- police stations.” “Our beat officers are going to door to door and providing the citizen identification forms”, said the additional commissioner.
