A total of 104 people have died due to excessive flooding in several districts across Bangladesh in the past 15 days.
Of them, three people have been killed in the last 24 hours.
Moreover, 12, 864 people have fallen ill due to flooding, water-borne diseases and other natural disasters, Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Health Directorate informed on Thursday.
People have also died from diarrhoea, lightning strikes, snake bite, drowning, and water-borne diseases.
Out of the deceased, 86 drowned, eight died from snake-bite, seven were killed by lightning strikes and two died from other reasons.
Dr Ayesha Akter, assistant director at the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room, said: “Diarrhoea and skin diseases have increased since flood water dropped a bit in some areas.”
According to the Control Room data, flood has affected 27 districts: Shariatpur, Rajbari, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Habiganj, Netrokona, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Chandpur.
A total of 76 out of 224 upazilas in the 27 districts have been affected by the flood.
Around 317 health centres have been opened in the upazilas where 415 medical teams are working.
