The scholarships, under the Pakistan-Bangladesh Friendship Scholarship Programme, will be offered through a consortium of Pakistan’s leading universities, Dawn reports.
The program, spearheaded by Pakistan’s Ministry of Education, will cover a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, natural sciences, medicine, social sciences, arts and humanities, business education, etc.
The Ministry of Education has highlighted the programme as a strategic effort to build stronger academic and cultural connections between the two nations. "The main objective of this initiative is to create goodwill and foster a long-lasting partnership with Bangladesh," a ministry spokesperson said.
The consortium of universities participating in the programme includes prestigious institutions such as the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Aga Khan University, and National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), among others.
To ensure maximum awareness and accessibility, the programme will feature educational expos, seminars, and roadshows in Bangladesh, conducted in collaboration with local universities. An online portal exclusively for these scholarships is also expected to be launched, streamlining the application process for students.
Secretary of Education Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani emphasized the importance of educational diplomacy as a means to promote regional cooperation. “This scholarship programme is a gesture of goodwill and an investment in fostering harmony and shared development in the region,” he said.
The initiative expands on Pakistan's existing scholarship offerings to students from Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. The scholarships will cover tuition fees, living expenses, and other essential costs, making them a highly attractive opportunity for Bangladeshi students.
