He is accused of committing offences under Sections 26(2) and 27(1) of Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a chargesheet against a former chief engineer of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) on charges of concealing wealth information and amassing wealth illegally.

The approval was granted at the ACC headquarters on Thursday.

According to the chargesheet, Emdadul Islam is accused of committing offences under Sections 26(2) and 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.

The allegations include failing to disclose acquired assets valued at Tk11,807,561 in his asset declaration and acquiring assets worth Tk8,700,440 beyond known income.

Earlier, the commission issued an asset declaration notice to Emdadul Islam, and he submitted his asset declaration twice, first detailing his acquired assets and sources. However, he later filed a revised declaration. After verification of his second financial declaration statements, the commission found him guilty and filed a case against him under the relevant sections of the commission’s Act.

Emdadul Islam's revised asset declaration was not initially considered, leading him to file a writ petition with the High Court Division. The High Court subsequently directed the investigating officer to consider the revised asset declaration and disposed of the petition.

According to the revised declaration, Emdadul reported total immovable assets of Tk381,245 and movable assets worth Tk17,144,411. However, his income tax records show his legal assets amount to Tk16,602,745 with family expenses of Tk4,789,499. He concealed Tk5,144,900, which is inconsistent with his known sources of income, leading to the decision to file a chargesheet against him.
