Due to the lack of necessary permissions to operate a farm, the mobile court of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) conducted another eviction drive on Saturday, completely demolishing the entire farm of Sadeeq Agro located at Road No 1 in Satmasjid Housing, Mohammadpur area of the capital.
The farm was situated near the Ramchandrapur canal embankment, where a court order prohibits any construction within 30 feet of the canal.
Additionally, Sadeeq Agro had no permission from the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) for the construction of the farm, nor did they possess any trade license from the city corporation.
The operation was led by Motakabbir Ahmed, the executive magistrate of Dhaka North City's area- and regionally-administered zone.
Initially, they were requested on Thursday to partially demolish their farm construction and obtain their trade license.
However, they failed to comply that day and were given a two-day grace period to dismantle the structures themselves.
On Saturday, upon inspection, since they did not demolish, the remaining structures were also brought down.
Furthermore, it was noted that there is no opportunity to farm in residential areas.
On Thursday’s drive, the illegal parts of the farm were demolished. That day, the area of Nabinagar Housing, near the Beribadh Road, was encroached upon and the entire farm of Sadeeq Agro was demolished.
According to the Department of Public Relations of DNCC, although the campaign started at 10am, it was delayed due to rain.
Later, at 12pm, the operation started. In the drive on the third day, in addition to Sadeeq Agro's farm, more than nine illegal structures, a house's gate, and some small structures nearby were also demolished.
In addition, excavation has begun to reclaim the place where the canal was re-entered from last Friday.
Till the last two days, 10 tons of garbage have been cleaned from Ramchandrapur canal. In the three-day campaign, more than 70 structures have been demolished and about 20 acres of land have been reclaimed.
