The peak and off-peak hours of metro rail will change from June 19 following the new office hours announced by the government.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director MAN Siddique revealed this information at his office at New Eskaton of the capital on Thursday afternoon.
Apart from this, the metro rail will run 196 times a day from the date instead of 194 times a day.
He said that on June 6, the government announced that the office schedule has been changed from 9am to 5pm and this schedule will be effective from June 19 after Eid.
For this reason, the peak and off-peak hours of metro rail have been changed, said the DMTCL official.
Although there is no change in the time of morning, the metro rail operation schedule has been changed from afternoon. In new schedule, metro rail will run from Uttara North to Motijheel every 8 minutes during peak hours from 2:25pm to 8:32pm. And from 8:33pm to 9pm, metro rail will run every 10 minutes during special off-peak hours and will run every 12 minutes from 9pm to 9:40pm in the last hour.
The schedule has also changed on public holidays. Metro trains will depart every 15 minutes instead of 12 minutes every morning on holidays without Saturdays. It will follow the previous time after noon.
He said, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, skins of sacrificial animals and raw or cooked meat cannot be carried in metro trains. At the same time, the previously imposed restrictions will remain in place.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, metro rail will be closed on June 17, said the official.
The DMTCL MD said that no decision has been taken so far regarding the fare increase. But the rent will increase. It cannot be said before June 30.
He said, now an average of 1,600 to 1,700 passengers travel in a metro train and the capacity is 2,200. Besides, an average of 325,000 passengers travel by metro rail daily.
