Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on June 17 as the crescent moon of the Arabic month of Zilhaj was sighted in the sky of Bangladesh.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque premises in Dhaka on Friday.
The meeting was presided over by Religious Affairs Minister Faridul Haque Khan.
During the meeting, various authorities including district administrations, Islamic Foundation headquarters, divisional and district offices, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization reported on the sighting of the crescent moon.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is set to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on June 16.
Arafat Day, which precedes the major Muslim holiday, will fall a day prior on June 15.
