Saudi Arabia is set to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha, one of the most significant religious festivals in Islam, on June 16.
On Thursday, Saudi Arabia announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, signaling the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar. With the crescent’s sighting, Eid-ul-Azha will be observed on June 16.
Arafat Day, which precedes the major Muslim holiday, will fall a day prior on June 15.
"Arafat Day falls on Saturday, June 15, while on Sunday, June 16 will be the first day of Eid ul-Azha," according to a Saudi Supreme Court statement.
