Tahsin wins GM Ziaur Rahman Smrity International Chess Tournament

Fide Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia is the son of Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman who passed away in November last year

Fide Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia of Bangladesh Ansar became unbeaten champion in the Over-2000 rating group of the Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman Memorial International Rating Chess Tournament held in the capital Saturday.

Tahsin is the son of GM Ziaur Rahman who passed away in November last year.

He earned seven points out of nine games to clinch the title.

FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid emerged as the runner-up with the same number of points.

Their tie was broken by direct encounter tie-breaking system.

International Master Mohammad Minhaz Uddin of Bangladesh Navy finished third while his teammate FM Mohammad Javed became fourth with 6.5 points each.

A total of 31 players with ratings above 2000 participated in the seven-day, nine-round Swiss-league format competition.

The tournament was sponsored by St. Joseph Old Boy’s Foundation and organized by Pawn Power Chess Club in collaboration with the Bangladesh Chess Federation.
