Canada-based midfielder Shamit Shome has joined the national team as Bangladesh arrived in San Marino on Monday ahead of their first-ever international match on European soil.

The landmark FIFA Tier-1 international friendly against San Marino will be held on June 5.

The Bangladesh contingent left Dhaka on Sunday and landed in Rome, Italy, before travelling to San Marino by road. The team arrived in San Marino at 1:30pm local time (5:30pm Bangladesh time).

A media statement from the Bangladesh Football Federation also confirmed that Shamit Shome joined the squad after entering the host country.

“Hopefully we all do well together,” said Shamit about the historic match after meeting the team in San Marino on Monday.

The match will mark the first official assignment of newly appointed head coach Thomas Dooley.

“It was good meeting the coach for the first time,” Shome added.

The Bangladesh booters are expected to undergo changes under the new coach. Dooley took charge of the team in the final quarter of last month on a temporary basis.

The German-born American coach has been focusing on tactical adjustments and is preparing a squad expected to play an aggressive style against Europe’s lowest-ranked national team.
