Bangladesh Awami League on Saturday pardoned the former mayor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Jahangir Alam.
A letter was sent to him from the party in this regard.
The letter signed by Awami League's General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the party's central executive committee announced general forgiveness to the applicants who sought apology on the condition of not involving any anti-ideology and anti-organization activities in the future.
As per the party policy, you (Jahangir Alam) are also pardoned, read the letter.
However, any anti-ideology or anti-organization activities in the future will be considered unforgivable, it said.
Earlier, Jahangir was first expelled from the party in November 2021 after a video clip of him making derogatory remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and expressing doubts about the number of martyrs in the Liberation War went viral in social media.
