At least 20 people were injured in clashes that broke out in Faridpur over local dominance and post-election tensions, during which several houses were vandalized and set on fire.

Army and police personnel from two upazilas rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. The incident occurred between 10am and 11am on Saturday in the Moyendia Bazar area along the border of Saltha and Boalmari upazilas. The identities of the injured could not be immediately confirmed.

Faridpur Assistant Superintendent of Police (Saltha-Nagarkanda Circle) Mahmudul Hasan said the clash occurred due to a dispute between the Moyendia and Khardia groups over dominance.

According to police and locals, there had been a long-standing dispute between supporters of Parameshwardi Union Parishad Chairman Mannan Matubbar of Boalmari upazila and supporters of Tulu Mia and Jihad Mia of Khardia village in Saltha upazila, centering on local dominance and voting in the election.

The clash occured around 10am, during which houses were vandalized and torched. Army and police later intervened to restore order.

It was not possible to obtain statements from either side, as their mobile phones were switched off.

“Police and the army brought the situation under control after receiving the informations. We have recovered local weapons and detained several individuals. Our operation is ongoing, and action will be taken against those responsible,” said the ASP.
