Measles outbreak: Death toll rises to 594 as six more children die in 24hrs

Bangladesh recorded 309 deaths from measles and related symptoms in May alone, while six more children died in the 24 hours until 8am on Tuesday, pushing the overall death toll to 594 since mid-March, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS)

With the latest figures, suspected measles deaths have risen to 504, while confirmed deaths remain unchanged at 90, it added.

A total of 1,292 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours to Tuesday morning, taking the overall suspected caseload to 73,362.

During the same period, 42 new confirmed cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 9,136.

Since March 15, a total of 59,106 suspected measles patients have been hospitalised, of whom 54,812 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
