Following election promises, renovation work has begun at the Shri Shri Raksha Kali Temple in Mohakhali, Dhaka, under the direction of Prime Minister and Dhaka-17 MP Tarique Rahman.
The foundation for the restoration of this historic temple-theatre was laid by Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam and Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Milton on Saturday afternoon.
Devotees expressed their gratitude with traditional uludhvani (shouts of joy).
In his speech as chief guest, Abdus Salam said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is committed to fulfilling all election promises, and the temple renovation is part of that commitment. He added that in the next local elections, they will seek the public’s vote, noting that development work could proceed faster if an elected mayor replaces the administrators.
Shafiqul Islam Milton said the administration will prioritize ethical considerations and work to resolve issues of religious institutions, including mosques and temples.
The event was attended by Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairperson’s adviser Farhad Haleem Donar and representatives of the temple.
