Shopping malls nearly empty day before Eid

More than half of the capital’s residents have left the city due to Eid

With the holy Eid-ul-Azha scheduled for Saturday, various markets and shopping malls across the capital were nearly empty of customers on Friday, the day before Eid, as salespersons were seen passing the time idly.

More than half of the capital’s residents have left the city due to Eid, reports Bangla Tribune.

At the SARA outlet in Banasree, sales staff were seen spending idle time with no customers in sight, and a similar situation was observed at the Artisan outlet.

Meanwhile, only a handful of customers were seen at outlets of brands such as Easy, Shoishob, Aarong, Figure, and Larive.

Similar scenes were reported from other areas of the capital, including Khilgaon, Rampura, Malibagh, Moghbazar, Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Mirpur, and Uttara.

A salesperson at SARA said that sales usually decline during Qurbani Eid.

“Since today is the day before Eid, many people have already left for their hometowns, which is why there are no customers. We plan to close the store after evening,” the salesperson said.

Another salesperson at Artisan said: “It’s the very last moment, and the crowd is thin. Sales were decent a few days ago, but for Qurbani Eid, Eid-centric shopping tends to be low.”

Another salesperson at Aarong said: “During Eid-ul-Fitr, there’s a shopping frenzy on the night of the moon sighting, but Qurbani Eid paints the opposite picture.”
