A total of 16 people were detained during a four-hour joint anti-narcotics operation at Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, on Monday.

The operation, which began in the afternoon, was conducted by an approximately 350-member force comprising personnel from the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the police and the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC).

Speaking to reporters, Fazlul Karim, acting deputy commissioner of police (ADC) of the Tejgaon division, said 16 individuals were detained during the operation and subsequently sent to the police station for further legal proceedings.

Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control Bashir Ahmed said the anti-drug drive was carried out jointly by the DNC, RAB, and police. Several suspects were detained and handed over to the police station. He added that around 90 DNC personnel, including officers and field force members, took part in the operation.

A RAB official said more than 70 officers and personnel from various companies of RAB-2 participated in the drive.

According to sources at Mohammadpur Police Station, around 200 police personnel, including officers and force members were deployed in the operation. A total of 16 people were detained during the raid.

Meanwhile, officials involved in the operation said that although the drive was conducted as a surprise raid, information about it had apparently leaked beforehand. They noted that large-scale operations often become known in advance, making it difficult to apprehend the main suspects.
